Broadband
As the internet becomes a larger part of everyday life it is only natural that the need for higher speeds would become widespread. The answer to these calls came in the form of broadband internet. The higher speed comes about as broadband cables allow a higher amount of information in bigger information packages to be transmitted. As well as higher speeds, it also allows us to utilise more aspects of the internet, such as downloads and streaming videos. These days most people utilise this method of browsing the web, making the days of dial up telephone modems a thing of the past.
Most people associate broadband with the internet, but it is also connected with telecommunications as broadband can carry a higher bandwidth of frequencies in signals. This results in clearer transmission of messages and the innovation meant that speech could be transmitted instead of the previously used Morse code. Likewise it can also be linked to (analogue) television as cable tv is sometimes referred to as broadband.
The internet is ever evolving and the newest innovation is mobile broadband, suggesting the internet on the go is the next step. One thing is for sure though broadband has made the communication world a much easier activity.
